...or not.

(This is not a sponsored post.)

I was totally tricked by a box of cereal last week! As I indicated in my last post, I typically start my mornings with a bowl of Special K (site) with red berries, but last Saturday, my sister and I were at the grocery store where something new caught my eye! We're walking down the cereal eye and on the shelf, I see these new boxes of Smart Start (site) cereal!

Right there between the new Cinnamon Raisin Smart Start (in a nice purple shaded box) and the new Maple Brown Sugar Smart Start (in a nice golden brownish shaded box) was a beautifully shaded blue box of Smart Start with blueberries. YUM!! On top of that, it was on sale, so I bought two. It seemed like such a great deal...

So all week last week, I'm eating just a little bit more cereal each day so that I can finish up the last of the Special K before opening up my new cereal. (Yes, I was anxious and impatient.) Friday's bowl was my last, so I got up Saturday morning, opened up my new box of Smart Start and started pouring cereal into my bowl. I pause. I looked in the bowl and there were no blueberries. No worries, I thought. I'll just shake the box a little -- they're probably all at the bottom! Still no blueberries.

So it dawns on me that something is wrong. I flip the box over and decide it's time I read what the box really says. Sure enough, the box says "DOES NOT INCLUDE FRUIT". Hmph... and why the hell not?!

I was so sad about this whole thing -- so sad that I'm slightly embarrassed. I mean, was I completely stupid not to have noticed such small print on the cereal box?? Was I? I'd like to think that the answer to that question is no. Because I honestly think (and hope) that there are other people who assumed the same thing I did.

When I was still a kid, cereals were so plain that it was always assumed that the fruit included in the pictures were purely decorative -- they were never included. But c'mon. Cereals have changed since then. Nowadays, if the cereal doesn't come with a toy, it's likely there is fruit in the box. For that reason, I'm very disappointed. I believe that this new Smart Start "Antioxidants" cereal is on the border of being falsely advertised.

I'm totally bummed!! And might I remind you, I have TWO boxes of this plain cereal to finish before moving on to another brand. So sad.

OKAY -- enough about my stupid cereal story. Sorry.

So I've been going through Time magazine's Most Influential List (list) and I'm shocked to see Miley Cyrus (article) on this list. Oh... my... God. Seriously??

(By the way, you know her recent photo on the cover on Vanity Fair? I really cannot comprehend why, in all the bad press she's been getting on it, everyone has focused on her being "topless". I mean, am I the only one who noticed how awful she looked in that picture? Looked like it could be the cover of "The Grudge 3".)

Anyway, back to my point. I understand it's hard to be a teen star. We've all been in similar situations... just usually without the world watching. Look, I agree with Donny Osmond (who wrote the article about her) that she's become a "tween" idol, but is that really all it takes to be on the same list as the Dalai Lama (article)? Unbelievable.

Is this what the world has come to? Oy.

Interesting.. you would think Kelloggs would realize people would think there is fruit in Smart Start because of their Special K line.

Okay, I agree with you that the half naked picture of Miley was not as offensive as the smeared makeup on her face. Hello? Makeup artist not doing his/her job apparently.

Haah! So after kb class I went to the store to buy cereal (this kat killed that box in like 2-3 days) and looked up to see the Smart Start box...of course I immediately thought of YOU. And giggled. Sorry...and even though I was going to take a pic of it and text it to you, I refrained.

I happen to see the Vanity Fair pic of this "tween" on a cover of a tabloid mag and I literally had to do a triple take. Seriously, she looked BEAT! I wasn't quite understanding the "look" they were shooting for, but it wasn't good. If I were a fan of hers, I'd probably share my thoughts via her fan site...but I'm not, don't really care, and she's got enoug to deal with already. Silly girl. Oh and wasn't her Daddy in the loop...and overseeing her decisions? Anyway...catch you on IM, G-money.
