JananaBee has kicked off a weekly series entitled Friday Favorites with a really great concept: reflect on all the things that happened in the week that helped you get by!
Let’s face it — times are tough right now. Most people I know are having a hard time at life financially, emotionally, and some even physically. I will be the first to admit that I am usually quite the pessimistic one and it’s certainly not one of my best qualities. I’ve made several attempts at being more positive and have made some progress. Still, I think it’s important for me to really focus and absorb all the great things that happen to me on a regular basis.
Now, I’ve already got somewhat of a Friday series going on, so I’m changing things up a little bit and posting these on Saturdays. It sort of works out since Saturday marks the official end of a week for me. Since I’m not working, Friday doesn’t particularly end my week. Then again, since I’m a full-time student now and am constantly studying or doing homework, my weeks never seem to end. (Notice the pessimism?) So here it is!
It’s Saturday, the week’s a wrap, and here are the things that made me smile this week:
Sunday was the perfect day. Went to church, had brunch with some of my favorite friends, saw my goddaughter (Ayanna) giggle and hug the Hello Kitty doll I bought her, had mimosas with my favorite guy (SB), cuddled with my favorite guy & dog (Bailey) combo, and finally quenched my tater tot craving!!
Took my HR Management midterm on Monday that I SHOULD HAVE been studying for on my perfect Sunday but decided it’d compromise the level of perfection. It’s okay, though — I didn’t struggle through the test at all! Best part of the night was spent with favorite guy and his BFF (Mikey) determining how white we are according to the book Stuff White People Like: A Definitive Guide to the Unique Taste of Millions. I’m the least white which was expected. Favorite guy was the most white which, although totally expected, was still hilariously ironic.
On Tuesday, I learned that I’d gotten A’s on both my Business Ethics midterm and my HR Management midterm. Woot!
Wednesday was a rocky and emotional day, but I did get to catch up with one of my favorite friends (Digga) on the phone. Not the brightest of subjects, but we did manage to squeeze in some “butt” talk. Never fails.
On Thursday, my body thought it was Friday and slept through the morning. At the time, it was a little stressful that I’d missed class, but now looking back, I’m sure I didn’t miss out on anything critical and I definitely gained a few hours of sleep that were much needed. Sure felt damn good!
Had a date on Friday with my 13-year-old nephew (Timmy) for some good eats at Dottie’s True Blue Cafe in San Francisco. In addition to delicious food, we had a good heart-to-heart. He’s such the little grown-up now and it’s amazing to be witness to it.
It’s Saturday and still fairly early, but my mom just asked me if I’m losing weight. I’m absolutely NOT losing weight, but it sure did feel good to be asked! Someone has obviously been convinced otherwise.
And, although it happens almost daily, I absolutely love, love, love when my 5-year-old niece (Kayla) tells me she loves me. It’s the kind of genuine and innocent love that can really make ANYONE’S day. If you need to borrow her, let me know. You have to return her, though, because I rely on her for my own daily smiles.
So, my week was clearly an awesome one. How was yours??

Those are some great favorites! I love getting extra sleep when I can, and there is nothing better than somebody asking if you’ve lost weight. Thanks for participating!
@Janna: No, no… Thank YOU for sharing the idea with all of us! I didn’t realize how long this post was until after I’d published it. Haha, oops!
Doesn’t it feel great to good grades after busting butt all semester, way to go!!
Have to admit the best has to be the love from a cute little 5 year old, they can just perk you up like no other.
Enjoy the weekend!
@Lucy: Absolutely — with two A’s AND love from a 5-year-old, this week will be tough to top! You have a fabulous weekend, too!!
My week was slow as heeeell. And my weekend is going by too quickly with all the Sims I’m playing..
@Michelle: Sorry for the delayed response. I’m back on the Sims bandwagon. This can’t be good… at all!
My week went by pretty fast. Since it snowed Sunday night, and we lost electricity for almost 24 hours nothing much has happened.
Isn’t it nice to get a child that you love who gives you the constant love and support with no strings attached? Children are wonderful. Unless you have to deal with their naughty behavior. That’s when life gets REALLY interesting!
I’m glad that you had a good week.
Love you blog!
Thanks for your comments! You now have a new friend and fan. :)
@BIBI: Welcome. :) The best thing about those children who REALLY love you is that even when they get punished for being naughty, they still love you the same! They don’t hold grudges quite like we adults do!!
I left something for you on my blog :)
